KPC - Upcoming Classes & Season Calendar

Hello Paddlers,

The paddling season is off to a great start! Lots of paddlers are getting onto the lake each week and we had an awesome turnout for boat rigging day last weekend (Thanks a ton to everyone who helped out!). We have our first classes starting up soon plus lots of exciting events all season long.

Read on to learn about some of the exciting things on offer at KPC over the next few months, plus don't miss the full season calendar. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone here at the centre soon.

Outrigger Academy starts April 7

Outrigger Academy is a 6-week course for beginner to intermediate paddlers interested in outrigger canoe racing. Paddlers will be able to build their skills and technique in a fun, focused, and low-pressure environment.

We started Outrigger Academy last season and it quickly became our most popular program. Classes are held each Tuesday evening from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.

The April 7 to May 12 session of Outrigger Academy follows a structured curriculum:

A dry land session on safety & fundamentals.
An on-water session on safety and fundamentals.
Two sessions focused on paddling technique & form.
Practicing or rehearsing a huli & recovery (temperature permitting).
Racing skills and tactics, including starts & turns.

Our goal is for paddlers to finish the program with the skills and knowledge to join a six-person outrigger crew for racing, fitness, or recreation.

Coach Eric Mitchell

June 6 to 14

Each season we welcome outrigger canoe coach Eric Mitchell to KPC. Eric has worked with some of the world's best outrigger crews in developing their paddling technique. Clinics and private lessons will be available for OC6 crews and individual paddlers.

Lockers Available

Join the waitlist by April 5

We have a number of women's and men's lockers available this season. Cost is $70 for the year. Lockers will be assigned by random draw from everyone on the waitlist on April 5th.

April 8 - Teen Junior Racing Program starts (Mon, Wed, Fri, & Sun)

April 8 - OC6 Fitness Classes start (Wed, & Fri)

April 17 - Recreational Outrigger Classes start (Mon, Wed, Fri, & Sun)

April 19 - Spring Clean Up

May 1 - Early morning classes start

May 16 - Duel in the Desert (Penticton)

June 6 to 14 - Eric Mitchell Clinics & lessons

June 27 - Waterman Paddlefest

July 22 to 26 - BC Summer Games
