I hope that this note finds you well and enjoying an excellent start to your paddling season, with still many great weeks on the water awaiting us.
I wanted to provide a brief update on the upcoming information session that we are planning. First, the date for this session has been changed, from June 4th to June 17th, at 6:30 pm. We are confirming a venue for the session and will advise shortly.
This is an extremely important meeting for all members to attend. The purpose of the meeting is to provide you with an update, including the latest information on the status of the long discussed future of KPC’s operation at our present site.
For anyone new to KPC, we have worked with the City over the past decade to design a new set of facilities for the Centre, and to negotiate a long term lease to enable secure operations over the next several decades. This process has been circuitous and challenging. However, we now approach the end of the journey..
At this gathering, our Board of Directors will provide updates on the following aspects of the project:
- Project construction design - Our contractor - Little Building Solutions - will be at the session to provide information on the design that was approved for a development permit, and challenges and opportunities regarding when we break ground for construction.
- Lease negotiations with the City of Kelowna - the Board will share information on the current status of the KPC lease, and negotiations with the City to establish a 25-year lease for the site.
- Project funding - The Board will provide current details on project cost, project funds currently available and the gap between the two amounts that we will need to close - with money, in-kind contributions, sweat equity, divine intervention, etc...
I encourage all members to attend this session. I appreciate that this topic has been in discussion for so long that it sometimes seems that it will go on and on and… However, I believe that we are approaching a critical inflection point where we either bridge the gap to reach our future vision for the KPC at Cedar Park, or both the site and KPC move in different directions. To successfully navigate this turbulence it is extremely important that members of our community are as well informed as possible, including our current challenges and opportunities, and the important decisions that await us.
We will be in touch shortly with the meeting location.
Best,
Dennis Silvestrone
